Set in Edinburgh, this series contrasts the high powered and respectable world of the lawyers and advocates of the Scottish legal profession with the sleazy and deadly existence of the city’s pimps, prostitutes and drug addicts.

When a young prostitute is murdered by a deadly drug overdose, her local doctor, Joe Sangster, is the only one who suspects foul play. But with the availability of drugs greater than ever before and the media spreading panic over the rise of AIDS in the city, Sangster’s clinic comes under attack, facing closure from a community campaign reacting out of fear and ignorance. Desperate not to leave Edinburgh’s street workers without a place to turn to, he recruits Greg McDowell, a young lawyer who sees the opportunity to make a name for himself.
