Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was one of the worlds greatest musical innovators. His close friend Mozart and his student Beethoven greatly looked up to him. Yet today in concert halls he is often overshadowed in favour of his younger contemporaries. By speaking to the greatest living exponents of Haydns music, this film redresses the balance and sheds light on the master and his work. Grabskys biographical account of the life of Haydn is a visual and aural extravaganza. Through intimate and revealing interviews with experts, and detailed extracts from Haydns personal letters, the audience gains tremendous insight not only into Haydns music, but an appreciation of the artist himself.
