Synopsis
Joanna Lumley embarks on the trip of a lifetime; to follow the River Nile, the longest river in the world, from sea to source. Heading upstream, in the direction of the earliest explorers, Joanna travels by boat, train, ferry, car, plane, mule and camel along Africa's 'life line'. On a four thousand mile journey, passing through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda, Joanna revisits the romantic history of the Nile and talks with the people working and living on the river today. On a journey resonant with legend and myth, Joanna's companions and adventures breathe new life into the story of an ancient river. She meets ferryboat captains, crocodile hunters, whirling dervishes and beauty queens and finds herself undertaking a wood smoke beauty treatment, running with Olympic hopefuls, getting up close to a baby rhino calf playing with its mother and hacking through the jungle to reach the newly discovered source of the great river. As she travels past pyramids and ancient temples, through deserts, jungle and war torn landscapes, Joanna's charm, enthusiasm and graceful fortitude carries us along a fascinating and epic journey.
